Artist Spotlight: Joe Benitez

Joe Benitez is a comic book artist I looked at during the life drawing project for my final piece since I was going for a Day of the Dead style which is the same as some of the character designs he did for the Lady Mechanika comics. I've always been a fan of the aesthetic, the mix of skulls and death imagery with bright colours and floral patterns I think works really well and looks very unique. I am likely to try more Day of the Dead styled characters in the future and will remember to look at his pieces again for inspiration.

Life Drawing Week. Evaluation and SWOT assessment

I completed a week of life drawing for my course. This was a very different learning experience for me since the few times I have done life drawing in the past it was never to this extent or with an actual life model. I got to try out a whole bunch of different style and techniques using ink, charcoal, chalk and graphite. I think this project really helped my drawing skills when it comes to scale, proportion and scale. I hope I get the opportunity to do this again in future. Strengths I think i was a bale to create a very wide range of pieces showing a lot of techniques, from highlighting to shading. My life drawing skills improved quite a lot over the course of the project which should help with my drawing skills for future projects. All though it sounds weird I think this project also made me more comfortable with drawing the human form.
