Environment Animation Project Evaluation and SWOT Assessment

For this project I was tasked with creating a piece of environment animation using 2D assets in a 3D plane. This is a technique called 2.5D or pseudo 3D. For my animation I went with a graveyard as my environment and used pen and ink to create my assets with a small bit of cutout black card for objects which needed less detail. The style I went with was inspired by Arthur Rackham's ink work but with a slightly creepier twist. I think overall I am rather happy with how my assets came out though I think I could have done with more of them. I also ran out of time and the final scene of my animation never got completed so it just loops back to the start. This is definitely something I would like to address in the future.

Strengths

  • I think my assets looks suitably spooky for the theme and since this project was my first time using ink I'm very happy with what I have been able to accomplish with washes and other techniques.
  • I'm very happy with my sound design I ended up with also since It was something I was able to accomplish with the little time I had left and on top of that it was my first real time doing any sound design especially for an environment.
Weakness

  • I wish I had put more time into creating my assets since I think having more tombstones would have helped make a denser scene
  • I also wish I had been able to get the final scene in there since it would help make the animation feel complete.
  • I don't know that I have done a very good job of documenting the process in my sketchbook and defiantly want to get better about this.
Opportunities

  • Thanks to this project I feel more confident when using Cinema 4D so that should halp with my options in future
Threats

  • I can see the fact that I didn't get all the scenes finished and my lack of documentation hurting this project
