Research and Analysis: Victor Castillo
At the same exhibition that had Miko's work there were also some paintings by Victor Castillo so I had the opportunity to see them in person.
Style
- I really like the contrasting colours used in his pieces, the blue and reds on the characters faces really stand out against the blank backgrounds. His character all have very vacant yet happy expressions as if all emotion is remove giving the a sinister vibe.
Technique
- I Like how he centres a lot of his work in the frame, it really give the character focus. His work is all hand painted with what looks to be acrylic paints. It has a very glossy look which helps capture the light.
Concept
- It looks to me like his work is about removing identity from his character by giving them all the same face and expression. This leads to pieces have a very unsettling look.
